When considering purchase of a digital camcorder, you should sit down and decide how you will be using the camcorder.  Will you be shooting mostly out of doors or indoors? You will most likely do a combination of the two.  You will need to make a determination of the zoom factor. Will you be editing your video and possibly making a home movie of it?  If this is the case, your digital camcorder will most likely need IEEE1394 (firewire) connection, though USB will work, firewire is the preferred method.
