It doesn’t matter if you are a professional photographer or an amateur shooting with a borrowed Canon digital camera, unless you have light, no one will see your pictures. Lighting the scene is the key to a successful photo. You may be shooting at sunrise, sunset or in your family room, but the proper lighting is the necessary component of a successful shot. In the first two examples, nature provides the light. In the third situation, you must provide the light in order to take a picture.

There are facts a photographer needs to realize about lighting:

Incandescent light will make objects seem redder than they really are.

Florescent lights will make objects appear more green than they are.

The easiest way to avoid the red tint and the green hue is to use a flash to light everything evenly. Flash is not the end all solution. You are limited by the range of the flash. The best way to light a scene is to use what is called 3 point lighting. Three point lighting involves 3 lights.

Key Light… Lights the subject

Fill Light…..Fills the scene, eliminating the shadows.

Back Light…Placed behind the subject and above the level of the camera. It provides a slight glow around the subject.

I found a video on YouTube that explains 3 point lighting

I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Concerts. I can never get a good shot of a band, or anything. It’s always blurred, and fuzzy. Really bad stuff. And. People. It’s not very good at capturing a picture of a person, and that’s what I want to do most. Portraits, and people, and such.

I see people with little Canon digital cameras.
Taking absolutely gorgeous pictures of things that my 46mm lensed camera completely wrecks.

So.
What’s my best bet for a great, cheap, digital camera that takes great portraits, or pictures of people?
