With the coming of the high performance computers, and high performance graphics cards, came the ability to create video special effects using software. This has been fueled by the video special effects in the very popular video games. Also contributing to the demand have been the highly popular science fiction software.

Dating back to the Godzilla movies, which seem crude as compared to today's movies, this has been a popular genre. Star Wars was one of the most popular ever.

A groundswell of short movies has been developed primarily by the younger generation. There are many venues that allow the publication of these movies, YouTube being one of the better known.

I have been using a product called ElabPro published by a group of young Brits. It has gotten much more complicated since I first tried it. A visit to their forum will give you an idea of what it is about. The forum can be viewed at http://fxhome.com/

I took a short video of my then 6 year old grandson demonstrating is Karate chops along with the accompanying yells. In the midst of this, I created and combined a couple of special effects. I had Yoda decend in a teleporting beam of light. Yoda was hopping around all over the place. Rowdy was doing his kicks at this time and I combined a fireball special effect just as Yoda disappeared in the fireball. Needless to say, Rowdy thought his Papaw was pretty cool. It was worth the effort.

The ElabPro has the trails of flame, light sabers, and all of the other cool special effects. They are fun to work with.
